The Ren & Stimpy Show
The Ren & Stimpy Show, also known simply as Ren & Stimpy, is an animated television series that was produced in the United States of America by a Canadian animator by the name of John Kricfalusi. The first episode of the show aired on Nickelodeon on August11,1991, alongside the premieres of Rugrats and Doug as part of the network's Nicktoons block. Ren Hoek is a chihuahua who struggles with his emotions, and Stimpson J. Cat is a cat who is good-natured but not very bright. Both of these characters are the focus of the story. The show aired on the network for a total of five seasons. The show has been praised by critics and has garnered a devoted fanbase both during and after its original run. Furthermore, many commentators believe that it was instrumental in the development of television animation, particularly in the realm of satirical animated series such as Beavis and Butthead and South Park, which they credit it with paving the way for. Altercations between the production staff of The Ren & Stimpy Show and Nickelodeon's Standards and Practices department occurred throughout the course of the show's run because of the show's offensive humor, sexual innuendo, and violent content. Each of these factors contributed to the show's notoriety. A spin-off titled "Ren & Stimpy: Adult Party Cartoon" was broadcast on Spike in2003, however it was canceled not long after it first aired. The show was aimed towards an adult audience.
