Saints & Strangers
Saints & Strangers is a novel that delves beyond the traditional historical accounts of Thanksgiving and the founding of Plymouth Plantation, describing the struggles and sorrows of the 102 men, women, and children who traveled on a rented ship for a place they had never seen. Half of this group are pilgrims or saints, religious separatists who gave up their previous lives for a single cause: religious freedom. The other half, known as strangers, were mercantile adventurers with less spiritual and more material, real-world goals. This mismatch of values caused the group to struggle internally as they attempted to build a new colony, which was exacerbated by a complicated relationship with the neighboring Native American tribes. Conflicting allegiances among various communities resulted in assimilation, faith, and compromise trials that continue to define our country to this day.
