The epic narrative of celebrated Pulitzer-prize winning author Alex Haley's ancestors portrayed from the acclaimed thirty months mini series Roots, was told from his 1976 bestseller Roots: The Saga of the American household. The docu-drama covers a span of history which begins in mid-1700s Gambia and concludes throughout post-Civil War United States, over 100 decades after. This 1977 mini series finally won 9 Emmy awards, a Golden Globe award, and a Peabody award, but still stands as the most watched miniseries at U.S. history.
