Punishment is a Australian television soap opera.
Set in a fictional men's prison, so the series attempted to exhibit a form of the successful soap Prisoner. Punishment imbued with increased realism was seen by Efforts by the show's manufacturers to differentiate the series. Nevertheless, the formula didn't bring high viewing figures. Network Ten deemed the brand new series a failure after just 3 episodes had gone into atmosphere, and it was removed from the schedules. Later that season the remainder of this 26 episodes produced were shown out-of-ratings. Unusually for a soap opera, the series was taped using the single camera technique.
The routine throw featured prominent celebrities such as Barry Crocker, Brian Wenzel, Michael Preston, Ross Thompson, Anne Haddy, George Spartels, Cornelia Frances, Lisa Peers and Julie McGregor. Mel Gibson played with a prisoner. Kris McQuade played Gibson's character's girl friend and has been phased from the series due to Gibson's departure. Alan Coleman produced and directed the plan.
