Maude
Maude is an American television sitcom that aired on CBS from September 12, 1972, until April 22, 1978. Maude stars Bea Arthur as Maude Findlay, an opinionated, middle-aged, politically liberal woman who lives with her fourth husband, home appliance company owner Walter Findlay, in suburban Tuckahoe, Westchester County, New York. Maude believed in women's emancipation, always voting for Democrats, fiercely supporting legal abortion, and advocating for civil rights and racial and gender equality. When speaking out on these concerns, however, her outspoken and occasionally dictatorial demeanor sometimes got her in trouble. Maude was a spin-off of All in the Family, where Beatrice Arthur played Edith Bunker's niece Maude. Like All in the Family, Maude contained topical plots devised by Norman Lear. Several episodes featured simply Maude and Walter, which amounted to half-hour "two-hander" teleplays, which was unusual for a US sitcom. "The Analyst," a solo episode from Season 4, featured Bea Arthur giving an episode-long monologue to an unseen psychotherapist.
