Freakazoid!
Freakazoid! is an animated television series produced by Bruce Timm and Paul Dini for The WB's Kids' WB programming block. The series follows the exploits of the title character, Freakazoid, a wild, mad superhero who faces a slew of supervillains. The show also includes mini-episodes on the exploits of other strange superheroes. Amblin Entertainment and Warner Bros. Animation collaborated on the project. The cartoon was the third animated series developed by Steven Spielberg and Warner Bros. Animation during the late 1980s and early 1990s animation renaissance. With Tiny Toon Adventures and Animaniacs on the air, speculations of Freakazoid! appearing on the Hub Network are circulating. Bruce Timm, best known as a major character in the DC animated universe, intended it to be a straightforward superhero action-adventure cartoon with comic overtones, but executive producer Steven Spielberg asked series producer and writer Tom Ruegger and the Animaniacs team to turn Freakazoid! into a straight-up comedy. The comedy is comparable to other Ruegger-led shows like Animaniacs, but the humor is unique in its use of slapstick, fourth wall firings, parody, surreal humor, and pop cultural references.
