Blue Thunder
The film with the same name and starring the Blue Thunder helicopter served as the basis for the television series Blue Thunder, which debuted on ABC in 1984. The series makes use of the modified Aérospatiale Gazelle helicopter, as well as a significant amount of stock material taken from the 1983 movie. In the television series, the helicopter was backed up by a ground squad that went by the name "Rolling Thunder." This was a huge support van that had an off-road vehicle decorated in a desert camouflage stowed inside. James Farentino, Dana Carvey, and Bubba Smith and Dick Butkus, who are both former professional American football players, are among the actors featured in the cast of the television series. ABC decided to end the series because they believed that its competitor, Airwolf, which airs on CBS, would garner higher ratings. In addition, the show competed against the popular CBS serial opera Dallas on Friday nights and came out on the losing end. Eleven episodes were produced for the series before it was pulled from the air.
