The Mayo Clinic, Faith, Hope and Science
The Mayo Clinic: Faith, Hope, and Science tells the story of a unique hospital that has been called a "Medical Mecca," the "Supreme Court of Medicine," and a "place for hope where there is no hope." After a devastating tornado in rural Minnesota in 1883, the Sisters of Saint Francis and a country doctor named William Worrall Mayo came together to start the Mayo Clinic. Since then, it has grown into an organization that helps more than a million people from all 50 states and 150 countries every year. Dr. Mayo had a simple philosophy that he taught to his sons Will and Charlie: "The needs of the patient come first." They wouldn't treat diseases, but they would treat people. In a world where healthcare is usually delivered by separate specialties, the Mayo Clinic uses a team-based, multi-specialty approach that has, from the beginning, created a culture that thrives on working together.
