That Summer
The classic GREY GARDENS by Albert and David Maysles immortalized the estate of Edith and Little Edie Beale, relatives of Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy, who lived in deplorable conditions. But there's more to the story: the Maysles were first introduced to the Beales by Lee Radziwill and Peter Beard, who were working on a film about Radziwill's childhood. The first contact reels were put away for 45 years. This film resurrects the footage that was previously lost. We are transported to "that summer" in 1972, a seductive dream world and collage of radically unconventional creative personalities—Warhol, Bacon, Jagger, Capote—practicing the art of living amidst oppressive forces of class expectation and prejudice, thanks to Beard's recollections and artistic vision.
