Into the Woods
Into the Woods by Stephen Sondheim is an allegorical story about family, love, growing up, and the murky spaces between right and wrong that weaves together many renowned fairy tales. Timothy Sheader directed this play, which was shot live by Digital Theatre at London's Regent's Park Open Air theatre. The Brothers Grimm's stories are given a dark and comedic twist in Into the Woods. The Baker and his Wife's struggle to have a child is intermingled with the popular tales of Red Ridinghood, Jack (of the Beanstalk renown), Cinderella, and Rapunzel. This retelling, however, goes beyond "happily ever after," as the familiar characters are thrust into unusual situations, and their hopes and dreams are questioned and examined.
