Ivan the Terrible, Part I
Producer unhappiness with Eisenstein's attempts to use forbidden experimental filmmaking techniques and enormous cost overruns led to the film's cancellation. The third part was only in the early stages of filming when shooting was stopped altogether. On his quest to reconcile the Russian people, Ivan is betrayed by the aristocracy and even his closest friends in the first part of his reign.
