Beauty and the Bastard
Modern finnish film about two extremely different young adults who fall in love after a chance encounter and start making music together. Nelli wants to be a singer even though her parents have the ideal job and partner in mind. She asks Sunen, a young, grungy Hip Hop musician she encounters by chance at the studio, to assist her in creating a demo tape. Not only is the subsequent narrative, which explores how differences converge and the challenges that must be faced, wonderfully written. Additionally, the soundtrack is incredibly well-made. That this is the director's debut picture is utterly incredible.
